The Power of the Gospel
Matthew 26:69
You are an evangelist.
It is important to be alive.
Repeated failures and mistakes can be resolved simply by listening to the Word.
It cannot be done by anything in this world, but it is possible through the Word.
It becomes possible when you are filled with the Word.
Today's passage is the incident where Peter denies Jesus. It is an event you are all familiar with.
It is a message that gives spiritual lessons to us living the life of an evangelist, to the extent that it was recorded in all four Gospels, demonstrating just how important it was.
This event occurred at the time when Jesus was to be tried unlawfully by the high priest.
It was a moment a few hours before he carried the cross.
At this time, Jesus prayed with a fervent heart.
He was arrested after this prayer. Leading the charge was Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Without any resistance, he was arrested just as he was, believing it to be the Father's will.
Even all the disciples who had wanted to believe in and follow Jesus abandoned Him and ran away. Not a single one remained; everyone fled.
He was a disciple who had confessed that he would die with the Lord and would never leave or deny Him, but he all ran away as if nothing had ever happened.
However, it seems that Peter still had a conscience. Peter continued to stand in front of the house of the high priest where Jesus was interrogated.
He waited for Jesus here, agonizing over his decision moment by moment, but an unexpected event occurred at that very place where he denied Jesus three times.
Peter, who denied Jesus three times, did not end his life there. In the early church in Jerusalem, he proclaimed amazing messages that transformed the scene, and healings took place.
The reason Peter was able to stand like this is nothing other than the Gospel.
Just as the title of today's message suggests, the power of the Gospel raised Peter up again. Don't we have moments like this in our own lives as well?
There are many moments when I struggle and worry. How do I heal this illness of frustration and despair?
It is possible precisely when you experience the power of the Gospel.
The Gospel is a cure for frustration.
Beyond simply knowing and understanding the Gospel, we can rise again and be restored by the power of the Gospel when it is imprinted, rooted, and ingrained in our lives.
If there is anyone who is currently mired in despair and frustration in life, I hope that experiencing the power of the Gospel will become a turning point for you to rise again.
Getting to the main point, through today's scripture, we came to see the image of a helpless human being.
When Peter was waiting outside before the moment of Jesus' interrogation, the moment a woman claimed to have been with Jesus, Peter denied Jesus once out of his survival instinct.
A second servant girl came and said that this man had been with Jesus of Nazareth. This meant that this man knew Jesus. However, Peter vehemently denied it here, claiming that he was a stranger.
Thirdly, when everyone kept egging Peter on that this man had been with Jesus, Peter cursed Jesus and vehemently denied him.
After this, the rooster crowed loudly, and Jesus’ words that you would deny Him three times before the rooster crowed were fulfilled.
It was Peter who said that even if everyone else forsakens the Lord, he would not forsake Him.
He is the one who followed even to prison and said he would follow the Lord to die with him.
I am the person who said I would lay down my life for the Lord.
It is a confession full of confidence. However, Peter, who was armed with such firm resolve, had that resolve crumble in an instant at the words of powerless servants—who were neither soldiers nor high priests.
In fact, we might view Peter as pathetic. However, can you say that you would not act like Peter in the same moment?
Is there anyone who says they will share their fate with the Lord until the very end?
He cried out and insisted on himself, and as a result, Peter came to deny Jesus.
Beloved saints, we are children of God. We are moving forward in a life led by the Lord. We are those who move forward, looking only to Jesus Christ.
We must live a life filled with the Holy Spirit. We must not be trapped within our old frameworks of Genesis chapters 3, 6, and 11.
The nation must tear down the Tower of Babel and enter into a life of continuing to enjoy the Kingdom of God and the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
We must lay down our will and our strength completely.
Moses, who led the Exodus, is also like that.
He, who believed in his own strength and thought he could do anything, ended up becoming a murderer and a fugitive.
As a result, Moses abandoned me in the wilderness in order to enter the land of Canaan.
God creates a spiritual state of 'only' for many people by causing them to abandon their sense of self.
We can be used when we attain this spiritual state and attitude of only.
During this worship service today, I must realize that I am nothing.
I hope you discover me like this.
Please look at your true self and be honest.
I hope you will hold fast to Christ once again.
I need the Lord every day.
If there is no Christ for even a single moment, I am a person with no hope.
I am a person seeking to receive new grace through the Gospel.
We all need the Gospel.
God uses us every day and gives us the power of the gospel.
He gives new grace through the power of Christ every day until death.
I must enjoy my will to be able to do it, and God’s Christ alone, that I am nothing.
The true gospel is everything.
The Gospel is sufficient and perfect.
This week as well, I said that the Gospel is everything, the Gospel is sufficient, and it is perfect.
Please pray that I may enter into the heartfelt confession of that time.
Please pray that this becomes imprinted, rooted, and ingrained in your constitution every day.
You must be spiritually armed and use the full armor of God.
You must pray for everything.
Then, you will naturally break free from the self, transcend yourself, and advance to a place of victory.
Secondly, looking at Matthew 25:75, He said that before the rooster crows, you will deny Him three times.
Remembering these words, he wept bitterly outside.
The Gospel ultimately restores us.
You must enjoy Jesus Christ, the Gospel who restores you rather than leaving you alone.
I was relying solely on my own will and received a huge shock.
This is a person who has gone outside and is weeping bitterly.
As soon as Peter denied Jesus three times, a rooster crowed.
Although it does not appear in today's text, the Gospel of Luke says that Jesus looked at him.
How would Peter have felt when he met Jesus' eyes?
Peter had no choice but to weep bitterly.
He reflected on himself and confidently said that he would not be like that, but he was not.
It was the moment my ego was shattered in an instant.
He did not simply leave Peter alone. The incident where Jesus raised Peter up again after he had fallen is recorded.
So the resurrected Jesus asked Peter three times, "Simon son of John, do you love me?"
Then Peter answered three times, "Yes, Lord. You know that I love You."
Do you love the Lord?
One Bible scholar describes God as the one who gives a second chance.
Looking at the contents of the Bible, He showed many opportunities for restoration through numerous people and events.
Didn't He give us many opportunities? This is the kind of God our God is.
Above all, He showed the problem of Genesis chapter 3.
The grace of restoration through Jesus Christ, the descendant of the woman, has come, and we have now enjoyed the power of recreation.
How grateful are you?
Isn't Abraham a man of faith, standing as the father of faith?
He restores us, and we believe that the God of Abraham is our God.
For Jacob, Moses, and many other figures, it is through such a process that they live as people who look solely to God.
I hope you seize that opportunity today.
If He had not visited Peter one more time while he was in the midst of despair, would he have become a person who could be used by God?
Jesus visited Peter and gave him one more chance. Peter, having met the Lord once more, confessed in Acts 4:19 that, unlike when he denied Jesus, he could not help but speak of what he had seen and heard before God in the midst of a life-threatening crisis, because he was listening to them.
Please look at the confessions of Peter, who had denied Jesus but received one more chance to fully believe in God and became the Gospel.
After that, Peter changed 180 degrees. The Peter who had denied Jesus three times became completely different.
If we just meet one more time, things can change.
If we just meet one more time, we can regain the faith we have lost.
We will be able to recover our lost mission.
I hope you will go forth as an evangelist.
You must become witnesses of the Only One.
You must believe the saying that it is none other than Christ.
He said, “Feed my lambs, tend my sheep, and redeem my lambs.”
In conclusion, we believe we must focus on Jesus.
Please try to keep focusing in the morning, at lunch, and at night.
I believe that if you are in Christ Jesus, you will not lose heart in any aspect of life and will gain new strength.
Let us read the confession of the Apostle Paul together. It is 2 Corinthians 4:7 through 9.
All saints, I pray in the name of the Lord that you gain strength every day amidst any adversity and situation and live as evangelists who save lives.
Thank God.
Peter, who had confessed that he would share his fate with the Lord, denied the Lord three times in the midst of a life-threatening crisis.
Thank you, Jesus, for meeting me one more time, waiting for me one more time, and giving me one more chance.
Please allow me to go beyond and transcend myself to save souls who are truly in despair and seek to meet God.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
