Sermon Title: When a Famine Began in That Land
Text: Genesis 26:1–5

Everyone's interest lies in eating, drinking, and sleeping, as well as where to live and what to wear.
Since you have a physical body, you must eat well.
Since our bodies cannot remain healthy if we do not eat well, we must obtain good nutrition and exercise, and we also need a place to live and clothes to wear.
So, I think about how to eat well, live in a nice house, and dress well.
Everyone is interested in how to live a lifetime without pain or hardship.
However, while humans need to eat, wear clothes, and have a home, they are not beings who live solely by eating like animals.
We are not beings who live only by eating.
We humans have not only a body but also a soul.
And we humans have a mind.
There is the mental world, the spiritual world, and the physical world.
No matter how healthy your body is, if your mind is not sound, you cannot fulfill your role as a human being.
What good is a healthy body?
What good is it to have a healthy body?
If your mind is not sound, that is a problem.
So, just as Jesus said, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
It said, "Do not work for food that spoils, but earnestly desire the word of God, the food of the Lord."
It is very important.
However, people don't understand this very well.
I don't understand.
It means that if you fail to understand and remain bound by the necessities of life—food, clothing, and shelter—following only those paths, problems will arise at some point.
Difficulties arise.
Sometimes, one does not live long due to physical illness.
And then the real problem came.
This issue could be an economic one, a conflict arising from interpersonal relationships, or problems related to children; there are also many other issues within the family.
And it means that an unexpected disaster is coming.
Disaster strikes.
It means that war is imminent.
Everyone, you have suffered a lot because of COVID-19.
Corona Wuhan Corona.
This means that because of this, we were unable to worship properly or engage in activities as we pleased.
So, what I am saying is that when difficulties or trials come, people become anxious and afraid of others, resent others, get angry and harm people, some even commit suicide, and families collapse because they cannot overcome it.
That is why problems keep coming to this land.
So, that means it is not just the era we live in today that is like this, but it was like that in the past as well.
According to the Bible, our ancestors in faith lived their lives of faith in environments that were even more difficult than ours.
How mercilessly did the ten Roman emperors persecute people who believed in Jesus?
They were captured and thrown into lion dens or burned to death. Everyone, the point is that even in such difficult circumstances, they survived and remained.
It means they won.
How can you all survive in such an environment?
How were you able to overcome such a difficult environment?
It won't work just by enduring it.
If you endure it, it becomes an illness.
So now the Bible tells us not to let our hearts be troubled.
Believe in God, so believe in me.
When problems or difficulties arise, you become deeply worried and afraid, but the message does not reach you well.
I can't quite believe that.
The Bible tells us not to be afraid or worry, but the problem is that there are still issues.
Even if I try not to worry about it, I still get worried after just a short while.
I get scared after just a short while.
I feel like I'm going to die.
I think I'm going to fail now.
That is why people get so stressed out.
So now, the cause of all diseases comes from fear and stress.
Everyone, when you worry, are afraid, and stressed
First of all, it is hard to digest.
I have stomach problems.
So when you go to the hospital, they say there is no particular problem, but it is psychosomatic.
Nervousness—that is nervous stomach disease. So, if digestion fails, that is when problems start to arise in all aspects.
Then, it means that all of us humans now have five internal organs and six viscera.
There are nerves in those internal organs.
There are nerves there, and the mind and thoughts, spirit and soul are connected.
It means that every organ has nerves, and those nerves are connected to the mind, thoughts, and soul.
So, we need to eat for the sake of our physical bodies, and while eating provides nutrition, if you have fear, anxiety, and worry in your hearts, you won't be able to digest it.
If digestion is poor, nutrients are not properly supplied.
So the Bible says, "Do not let your hearts be troubled."
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
Then the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds.
It means that the Lord said He would guard your heart and mind.
But now, this isn't working well.
The reason I am so worried is simply because the problem just exists.
It is just terrifying.
It feels like I'm going to die.
I mean that I think I'm going to go completely bankrupt.
It means that I think I am going to starve to death now.
No matter how much the Bible tells us not to worry, this doesn't work well in the face of problems.
It is not being entrusted.
This cannot be forced.
It is that I cannot believe in Jesus.
It is unbelievable that Jesus is the Christ.
Just because you decide to believe doesn't mean you will actually believe.
It’s not that you don’t worry just because you tell yourself not to.
I am worried and afraid, and even though the Bible tells us not to worry, I mean that worry still remains in my heart.
I just mean that I'm afraid.
This is our state.
It is our state of mind.
It is our mental state.
It is the state of the soul.
So, while our body, mind, thoughts, and spirit are important, the most important thing is the soul.
We humans are beings with souls.
It is a spiritual being.
He is a spiritual being, and when God deals with us humans, He deals with your souls.
Therefore, the Bible says, "Bless the Lord, my soul, my soul."
It means that my soul should look to God.
He said that he desires for everything to go well and for the body to be strong, just as his soul prospers.
That means our souls are important.
The soul is directly connected to the brain, and the brain is connected to the mind and thoughts.
Since the mind and thoughts are directly connected to all nerves, the most important thing is our soul.
That soul must be saved by believing in Jesus Christ.
You must become a child of God.
We must worship with the status and authority of God's children, gain strength through worship, and the word given through worship must become nourishment for our souls.
If there is no nourishment for the soul, our souls cannot live.
It is impossible to gain strength.
If you do not gain strength, no matter how hard you try not to worry, you will still worry.
The worry does not go away.
Why is that?
This is our state.
It is our spiritual state.
It is our mental state.
Can you break the addiction?
If this addiction is cured, can you all be cured?
No.
Everyone, can you be healed from these serious spiritual and mental problems?
No.
Physical illnesses are cured with medicine.
You just need to use the medicine.
Medicine has advanced significantly.
Physical illnesses can be cured as long as you meet the right doctor, but mental illness is incurable.
Everyone, spiritual illness, the illness of the mind and thoughts, is that the mind and thoughts are wrong.
It is that the mind and thoughts are crooked.
It cannot be cured with medicine.
You absolutely cannot fix it.
Why is that?
That person's spiritual state is wrong.
So, looking at today's scripture, it says that there was a famine during the time of Isaac.
There aren't many famines these days, but when we were young and lived in the countryside, we experienced frequent famines.
It is a time of severe drought.
It is not raining.
Then, places like rain-fed rice paddies
We are looking only at the sky because we cannot plant rice seedlings.
I only wait for it to rain.
I'm just waiting for it to rain, but it doesn't come often.
Then we have to draw water from down there.
Do you know how to pull it in?
It means that they used a bucket to scoop up water, scooped it up again and again, and planted rice seedlings in the rain-fed paddy.
Even so, if there is no water underneath, you absolutely cannot farm.
Everyone, famine did not occur only during Isaac's time; even during Abraham's time, when he left the U and came to the land of Canaan after hearing God's word, there was a famine, and there was nothing to eat.
So, they fled to Egypt.
Everyone, there was another famine in the time of Isaac.
Not only during the time of Isaac, but also during the time of Joseph, when Joseph became the Prime Minister of Egypt, there were seven years of famine following seven years of abundance.
That means seven years, but what would happen if you couldn't farm at all for seven years?
Everyone, right now, when it comes to farming, if it doesn't rain for even a month, it causes a huge fuss.
But everyone, what would happen if it didn't rain for seven years?
Isn't this a big problem?
However, there is a record in the Bible that Joseph stored up a large amount of grain for seven years in preparation for the seven years of famine, sold the grain, and saved many people.
Even in the time of Elijah, there was a famine, and it did not rain for three and a half years.
What would your lives be like for the next three and a half years?
I am saying that there is a record of Elijah praying and rain coming after three and a half years.
If you look at Acts chapter 11 in the Bible.
The church in Antioch was founded, but then a famine struck.
There is a record stating that when there was a famine and nothing to eat, God gave the church in Antioch an economic response.
You shouldn't just accept it and move on.
When the whole world was suffering from a famine and everyone was starving to death, how was it that the church in Antioch was overflowing with food during this time of famine?
What is that secret?
How can something like this happen?
Everyone, there is a story like this in the Bible.
So, while we can somehow avoid famine now, in the past, famine was impossible to prevent.
Everyone, even a king cannot stop this famine and crop failure.
You can't stop it.
Everyone, disasters cannot be prevented by human power.
Can COVID-19 be stopped?
Can war be prevented?
Everyone, what is a famine one day?
It is war.
What would happen if a war broke out?
Because of the war, oil prices have skyrocketed, so people who drive cars are afraid to fill up their tanks.
I mean that they are charging around 2,000 won each.
This is a famine.
It is not just this that causes famine, nor is it just natural disasters or war. What is famine in the 21st century?
This is a serious spiritual issue, everyone.
This is a serious mental issue.
It is serious.
What is the famine of the 21st century?
There is no happiness.
There is no satisfaction.
So, as people fall into addiction—gaming, alcohol, and drugs—and indulge in pleasure and gambling, humans who have turned away from God, fallen into sin, and are held captive by Satan—since there is no happiness and no rest for them, where could there be rest?
Will there be peace?
Is there happiness?
No matter how much humans satisfy their desires, it does not mean we are happy.
Living in a nice house does not make you happy.
Living in a nice house might seem good at first, but it seems that people who build and live by the seaside are the ones who enjoy it at first.
I'm always just looking at the sea, everyone.
However, it is said that the people living there have more mental problems.
If you go to Hawaii, you won't know how good the environment is.
They say that even if you go to a country like Canada, the environment is good.
Then shouldn't everyone living there be happy?
But the problem is that there are more mental issues there.
Living in a nice house, eating well, or wearing nice clothes does not make you happy.
Do you think your children will be happy just because you treat them well or provide them with money?

I heard a testimony from the son of the owner of a large hotel in Daegu.
I was in a position where I could spend money as I pleased.
However, that child fell into alcoholism and drug addiction and became a complete wreck.
However, the mother believed in Jesus anyway, shared the gospel with her child, and prayed incessantly for him, and as a result, the child was healed.
You are not happy just because your father treats you well.
Just because your parents provide money doesn't mean you can live well with that money alone.
Please do not be mistaken.
No matter how much you give your children good things, do everything for them, and take full responsibility for everything, there is no one who can take responsibility for their soul.
Only God is responsible for the souls of your children.
Your souls and your children's souls must live.
So what is the famine of the 21st century?
It is a serious spiritual problem.
It is a mental issue.
It is an addiction.
So, the whole world is suffering from serious problems due to homosexuality, drugs, and game addiction.
This is no ordinary problem.
This is serious.
Because the suffering is so intense, people seek out idols and fall into superstition and divination. They also experience mysticism while praying, claiming to have seen something or heard a sound. That is mysticism.
I am asking what will happen to us who believe in Jesus.
Why are you acting like that?
It is exactly as it was told to us in the Bible.
It was said that times of suffering will come in the last days, and times of suffering will come in the last days.
In 2 Timothy 3:1, it says that people are lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, disobedient to their parents, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, and have the appearance of godliness but deny its power.
What is this?
I am a nominal believer.
You must not become a believer in name only.
You shouldn't just come here and leave.
You shouldn't do that.
Then our fundamental problem will not be solved.
You cannot remove anxiety and fear from your hearts.
It doesn't disappear just because you tell it to.
Just because you tell yourself not to do it doesn't mean you won't do it.
I am worried, and my heart is still full of anxiety.
Some people say, “I wish I wouldn’t wake up at all tomorrow morning.”
I wish it would just stay exactly as it is.
How much pain must you all be in to say that you would rather just go?
I don't know how many people like that there are.
It is not because I don't have a house.
It is not because there is nothing to eat.
How many of these clothes are piled up in every house?
There is a mountain of food.
Then you must be happy.
You must be satisfied.
There is no satisfaction.
Why is that?
It is the absence of God's grace.
It is not knowing God's grace.
I am asking how to handle such serious, fundamental human spiritual and mental problems.
It means that no matter how much I come to church or pray, nothing works, and even though I pray hard, nothing works.
It won't work no matter how hard you struggle.
There are also people who have experienced mysticism while praying earnestly. There is a great deal of mysticism among Christians.
They say they hear a sound.
It is also said that God said something.
But what is it called?
Did God say that?
It means that you have been saved in Jesus Christ and have become a child of God.
I am with you.
I will protect you.
It means to look at me.
It means that I will give you strength, so use that strength to fight the spiritual battle on this land and save your family, region, nation, and the world.
It is because of this that God called me.
But we are still listening to nonsense and following nonsense.
You must not stand there.
Who would know about such serious human problems?
Do politicians know?
I don't know.
The point is that politicians do not know.
Politicians do not understand the necessity of the church because they do not know.
They are loudly making absurd claims that there should be no church.
We cannot do without the church.
I mean that there must be a church that preaches only the Gospel, not just any church.
Nothing else can solve the spiritual problems that humans possess.
Live a good life, live truthfully.
No matter how much your school teaches you or how hard you try to live a good life, it won't work.
Even if you try your best to live, it doesn't work.
Why is that?
There is some force pulling me along.
I need to cut it off, but it won't cut off.
The addiction just won't break.
The problem is that I can't quit drugs.
There is some force that keeps dragging me along, but I do not know who is dragging me.
The Bible calls it the enemy, that is, the devil.
It means that the devil is dragging us away.
It means that the devil destroys our family like a thief.
The devil instigates conflict.
It means that the devil instigates the fight.
Everyone, when there is a cockfight, who is the one who instigates the cockfight?
I am a person.
Who causes humans to turn away from God, fall into sin to take control of them, and constantly cause them to experience conflict, fear, and fight?
It is the devil.
Therefore, you as parents must first receive grace and gain strength. If parents lack strength and possess nothing, they cannot give to their children.
Parents must have strength.
You need to be financially stable to pay your children's tuition, tutoring fees, and transportation costs, don't you?
What can parents give their children when they have no power?
If the church does not gain strength, if it is unaware of the fundamental problems of this land, and if the church cannot provide answers to them, then who will provide answers to such serious problems in this land?
Because they do not know God, and in that state of not knowing God, problems and suffering keep coming and disasters strike, so they cannot endure it and fall into idolatry, superstition, and divination, and are trying to be swept away by them.
Will it be resolved?
That is a trick played by ghosts, a deception. So, what should be done when facing a famine?
What should you do when you encounter a disaster?
There is nothing to do.
So, are you telling me to do nothing and just sit around?
There is nothing to do.
It doesn't work just by doing it again.
It won't work even if you try.
It won't work even if you try hard.
It won't work no matter how hard you try.
Even if you struggle, it won't work.
You shouldn't go visit people either.
No one can stop the disaster that has struck this land.
There is no one to stop the disaster.
There is no one to prevent the famine.
There is no one to prevent the famine.
You can't stop it.
What should be done?
You yourselves must be spiritually set up perfectly.
It is not a problem.
Look.
We talk a lot about the stories of Joseph, David, and Paul, don't we?
Are those people great?
Are they some kind of oddballs?

He said that Elijah was a human being just like us.
However, it is said that although Elijah was a man just like us, God heard his prayer when he prayed for the rain not to come and then prayed for the rain to come again.
Then, just what kind of person was Joseph that he was able to triumph even after going as a slave?
I was wrongfully framed.
How unfair it must have been for you all!
I was framed and went to prison.
And you said you interpreted the dream of the chief wine official but forgot it.
Everyone, is it possible for the world to be like this?
However, Joseph did not fail.
As today's message says, Abraham survived the famine.
Isaac also survived the famine.
How did you survive?
Did you endure it?
Did you struggle?
Did you find someone and ask this person for help?

Isaac was set up.
The spiritual setting was perfectly in place.
You know the settings, right?
Isaac is already.
On Mount Moriah, the ram in place of Isaac—this is the experience of the Gospel.
If you truly experience the Gospel, your children must not experience the Gospel in a different way.
You must experience the Gospel.
Jesus is the Christ.
Jesus, as the Christ, resolved all our sins and curses on the cross.
He smashed Satan's head.
He opened the way to meet God.
Achieved.
I am the way, the truth, and the life.
As for Isaac.
Because it was set as the complete gospel on Mount Moriah, of course it was shaken.
He also made the same mistakes as his father.
You can make mistakes even after you have already made one.
We can fall again.
However, because it was set by the Gospel, it happens again.
It rises again like a tumbleweed.
Even if I fall down, I get back up.
It is because it was set up with the Gospel.
Everyone, no matter how hard we try not to worry, we still get worried. What can we do?
What would you do when you were afraid?
That is our spiritual state.
What should you do when you encounter disaster or difficulties?
It doesn't work just by trying hard.
There is nothing for us to do.
It’s not something that can be achieved just by trying.
What did you say was important?
It is a spiritual setting.
It is a spiritual state.
If your physical condition is healthy.
You can overcome any disease.
Isn't it said that we all have a cancerous factor?
What do we call it in our body?
If that immunity weakens, it is when it just starts to turn into a disease.
If our physical body is healthy, we can overcome any germs.
I am talking about your state of mind and mental state.
Even if your state of mind, mental state, and spiritual state are perfectly set, it does not mean that simply having a right heart and thoughts is enough.
If your heart and mind are right, but your spiritual state is wrong.
If your spiritual state is wrong, and you do not have the secret to communicating with God's throne...
That mind and thought can be one's own thoughts and can be wrong.
Therefore, when one's spiritual state is set right and fellowship with God is established, all blessings come from the throne.
The Triune God pours out all kinds of treasures upon us from the throne.
It is giving grace.
If there is no blessing from the throne at this time when our church is worshipping, if there is no blessing from God to us from the throne, what is the use of us gathering among ourselves?
Even if we gather among ourselves to sing and preach, it has little meaning.
The grace of the throne must come.
Therefore, all of us church leaders and educators, please ask God to grant grace from the throne when our senior pastor preaches today.
Please give me the ability to assist.
Please let the word given from the throne be fulfilled in all our saints.
I hope you pray like that.
What's important?
Our spiritual state is important.
Our mental state and our state of mind are important, but your spiritual state is very important.
Therefore, once a right relationship with God is firmly established, a spiritual relationship with God must also be formed.
God must know me and I must know God so that a spiritual relationship is formed, and no matter what happens, I am close to God.
We are very close.
If you are too far from God, you cannot receive an answer.
Because we are so close, I ask God.
I will look into it.
I offer a prayer.
Then God will let you know.
God makes it known.
How would you let me know?
It is through our hearts and minds that He makes it known.
That is the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
That is why I pray.
It is not a prayer asking for something.
You should always pray in your daily life.
Please do not pray for the problem to be solved when difficulties arise.
That is wrong.
Difficulties came whenever I prayed.
I ask God.
God, difficulties have come to me.
A problem has arisen.
How can I do this?
Then God gives us the answer through our hearts and minds.

There must be tribulation.
There must be a problem.
There must be tribulation.
There must be famine.
That is not the problem.
It is always there.
It still exists.
There will be more in the future.
Everyone, problems will never cease until we die.
Conflict never ceases.
Famine continues to come.
Everyone has one.
However, even though the same famine is coming, there are those who die and those who live.
When famine or bad harvests come, there are those who perish and those who survive.
Isn't that strange?
That is the secret.

Isaac did not fail.

It seemed like David was going to die, but he didn't.
The Psalms show how much hardship David endured.

I keep listening to messages while going around there.
It is to pray while continuously listening to the words of the Psalms and the Book of Romans.
Everyone, has anyone faced difficulties like David?
Why do difficulties arise?
Why do difficulties come to people like David and Joseph?
Why did such difficulties come to Isaac after he experienced the Gospel in Moriah?
Why did people fill in the wells whenever Isaac dug them?
Why does the problem arise?
Everyone, tribulation is beneficial.
Famine is beneficial.
Is it difficult?
Is it painful?
If you are truly saved children of God, it is said that suffering is beneficial.
Tribulation produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope.
Do you think that eating well and living well is a blessing?
Do you think that being healthy is the only blessing?
Is success the only blessing?
Your children don't cause you any trouble, study well, are obedient, and everything goes smoothly. But what would happen if there were no Gospel?
Is that a blessing?
Going to Harvard University when you don't know God or the Gospel is not a blessing.
Please do not be mistaken.
For those who believe in Jesus, tribulation is a blessing.
Through tribulation, God tells us to be patient.
It means to refine.
Have hope.
Do not place your hope in this earth, but in the Kingdom of Heaven.
It means to place your hope in the Kingdom of Heaven.
This is a secret.
What to do during a famine
It is to focus on God's word.
It is listening to the word of God.
What did God say?
It is telling Isaac not to go down to Egypt.
It means you shouldn't rely on people.
It means you shouldn't chase after people.
It means not to go to Egypt.
Egypt was a prosperous country at that time.
But Egypt is the kingdom of Satan.
Pharaoh is speaking of Satan, so he is telling us not to go to Egypt.
It appears in verse 2 of today's text.
So, as I mentioned earlier, if you face difficulties.
A real problem I couldn't talk about has arrived.
Going to people for no reason to complain and vent won't solve anything.
Going to someone and talking to them won't solve the problem.
The timetable of tribulation is
It is time to focus on God.
It means to listen to me and look at me.
It means to rely on me.
It means to look toward the throne.
This is the schedule for focus.
So, what did Isaac do?
That is where I focused on God.
What did Abraham do?
It is a stack of steps.
It is worship.
Please worship properly.
Please focus on prayer.
Please pray.
So, Abraham and Isaac
By focusing on worship, I will obtain the blessings God has given me, the gates of the enemy.
Look to the east, west, north, and south.
It means that I will give you all the land you tread upon.
That doesn't mean I'm going to become rich.
It means that it will be used to fulfill God's plan for world evangelization.
Everyone, Isaac is what was obtained a hundredfold from farming.
How can something like this happen, everyone?
There is a source of the spring. The local people filled in the wells, and even when they dug a spring and came back to fill it in again, they yielded to them. However, whenever they went and dug again, water flowed out.
If problems and difficulties have come to us
There is God's hidden plan in that.
There is a hidden plan.
We are not trying to ruin us.
Did God cause a famine to ruin Isaac?

What is humanism?
That is my opinion.
It is our experience.
That is just my opinion and our experience.
It is just what I have experienced so far.
That is wrong.
The Bible alone is the Word of God, and the Word of God is the Thoughts of God.

This is wrong.

Since the LORD gives blessings, and God gives blessings, who can stop it?
Who could stop God from blessing you in our church?
Who could stop God from blessing Isaac?

If God is for us, who can be against us?

Since God is for us, who can be against us?
Shall we suffer tribulation, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword, or death?
It means that even death cannot separate us from God's love in Christ.
It is because I am going to heaven.
Unbelievers go to hell, but we go to heaven.
This is the conclusion.
Everyone, if you look at verse 13 of today's text...
Finally, God's timetable will surely come.
Finally, that person becomes great and prosperous, eventually becoming a wealthy man.
And if you look at verse 19
It was said that the source of the spring was obtained.
Everyone, the source of the spring is water that never runs dry.
About this never-drying water
Jesus said.
Living water will come out of my belly.
This living water of life given to us through Jesus Christ is an inexhaustible spring.
And in verse 20, it is called Rehoboth.
What is Rehoboth?
The point is that we didn't argue.
The point is that we didn't fight.
It means that we won without fighting.
So Isaac didn't fight.
We won without fighting.
I conceded everything.
So, Rehoboth means that he won without fighting or quarreling.
And look at verse 28.
What is this?
It means that people saw that God was with Isaac.
It is to make peace.
It means we should get along well.
What is this?
Isaac is the platform of that region.
If God is with you, He will eventually make you wealthy, so that people will see and realize, "Ah, that person is truly someone with whom God is with."
That is the platform.
Evangelism is a platform.
Everyone, our church is a platform for this region.
All of our key leaders are a platform.
It is a spiritual platform.
As I mentioned earlier, disasters cannot be prevented.
We cannot win.
It doesn't work just by going to find someone, it doesn't work by straining, and it doesn't work by struggling.
Look to the Lord.
